The Library of Shadows – Video

The Library of Shadows from UL iMedia 2012/2013 on Vimeo

This was a short movie which we created as part of our Masters course. The story is taken from a fairytale written by Stephen Ross. My role was to dissect the story and adapt it into a short film. I directed and shot the movie on location in Limerick city. I created theme song using Pro Tools and the movie was edited in Premier pro.

Process

We begin our process by reading the story which we had received and breaking it down into a story for short film. Then we started to story board and get our shot list ready. These were drawn out on A3 paper and kept close to our work area so that we could make changes if we thought of any.

We started filming on location in the Bishops Palace, North Circular road Limerick. This seemed like the perfect location as we had access to an old library and some great props.

The initial stages of pre-production saw us getting familar with the area and lights. We wanted to keep the movie dark but make sure that it didn’t come accross too dark on tape.

This was shot entirely using a Canon 600D – 1080p, while the dream sequence were shot using a SONY HDV-Z1 camera. The video was edited using Priemere Pro with some slight master in Final Cut Pro.
